Abstract


For the purpose of examining dental injuries of athletes occurred during matches and practices the author performed this study. Tooth attrition, fractures, crack, overjet and dental caries were examined in 182 baseball players of middle school, high school, university and business teams,
The results obtained were as follows:
1. The estimated age by attrition was 5.30 years higher than real age and the difference was increased according to career of the players.
2. Tooth attrition was severest in pitchers.
3. The rates of players having fractured teeth and cracked teeth were 37A% and 14.8% respectively, and increased according to the career.
4. The incidence of tooth fracture was highest in maxillary central incisors, about 47% of the case, and the fracture of maxillary central incisor was related to the amount of overjet. 5 Efforts for the oral health care and prevention of dental injuries are required.
